Fonderful sends a note to someone you love, through their own email. We keep as little as we can. This page says what Fonderful keeps, and what other services may keep even when we do not.

What a note is

When you tap Send, the title, words, and any photo, video, voice, or file go out as an email. Fonderful does not save that note or attachment in our own database. After the send succeeds, it is gone from our servers.

To send, the note does pass through our send function in memory, then to Resend, the mail service we use. We do not write it to a Fonderful disk or bucket along the way. Resend may keep the email, including its content, in their own logs for about 30 days, for delivery and debugging. That is Resend's copy, not a Fonderful archive. We do not keep a second copy.

Replies

Each note is sent with your address as the reply address. If they tap Reply, the mail goes from their inbox to yours. Fonderful is not in that path, and we never see the reply.

People you add

To send, you type someone's name, how you know them, and their email address. That address is theirs, not yours. They did not sign up for Fonderful. We only use it because you asked us to, so we can confirm the inbox and send the notes you write. Use an address you are allowed to contact.

When you add someone, we email a one time confirmation link to that address (unless it is already your own account email). We keep that address, and a short lived confirmation token (up to 7 days), so we can tell a confirmed inbox from one that is not. Someone with access to that inbox must tap the link. That way you cannot add an address you cannot open. If you remove them or change the address, we drop that confirmation record too.

Notes waiting for a recipient to confirm are stored on your phone only. Fonderful doesn't keep a copy of your notes. When a note is sent, the email passes through our servers in transit to be delivered and is not stored.

You may hold an address for someone who should not use email yet, often a child, including one you will open later. Confirmation still goes through that inbox. You are responsible for long term access to that address. We do not read the notes you write to them. We do not store those notes after they are sent.

Your account

Signing in with Google or Apple is optional. If you do, we keep your people list, settings, and the titles in your send log, tied to your account so they come back after a reinstall. We do not get your password.

What may stay on this phone

People you add, drafts you have not sent, notes waiting for a recipient to confirm (on this phone only), settings, and a message log of who you sent to, the title, and the time, never the words or media after a successful send. If you turn on iCloud backup, that same people list and log can copy to iCloud. iCloud is off by default.

Reminders (birthdays, a nudge to write) are local notifications on this phone. They may include a name and the occasion. They do not include the text of a note.

Crash notes

There is no analytics or crash SDK in the app. If something breaks, we may receive the screen you were on, the phone's system, the app version, and a short error line with addresses stripped out. Not the note you were writing. You can also tap Something's wrong in Settings and tell us in your own words, optionally with a screenshot you choose.

Who can see what

Your signed in people list and send log titles are stored so only your account can read them. The send and confirm functions use a server key to check confirmed inboxes and rate limits. That key can also read those tables; it is not a public listing, and we do not use it to browse notes. There are no note bodies there to browse.

Ask us to delete

Remove someone in their profile to drop them from this phone (and from your signed in copy on the next save). To clear this phone and start over without deleting the cloud account, use Reset this device in Settings. To delete your Fonderful cloud account and clear people, drafts, and Sent on this phone, use Delete account in Settings. You can also email hello@fonderful.app from the address you signed in with.
